2006 Mabang Chadao Rui Ma Commemorative Ripe Pu-erh Tea Cake – 1kg 马帮茶道瑞贡京城

A substantial aged Yunnan ripe Pu-erh / shou puer commemorative cake connected with the historic Mabang Chadao / Tea-Horse Road cultural journey to Beijing. This Rui Ma edition was produced as a large-format 1kg cake, with the wrapper marking a total edition of 8,000 cakes.

Tea type: Ripe Pu-erh / Shou Puer
Year: 2006
Edition: 8,000 cakes
Format: Large compressed commemorative cake
Net weight: 1kg

Taste & aroma

After extended aging, the tea offers a deep, settled and rounded profile with mature woody character, dark sweetness and a smooth red-brown liquor. The large cake format gives the compressed leaf a strong collector presence while still providing generous drinking volume for repeated gongfu sessions.

How to brew

Gongfu: Break off 7–9g with a tea pick. Use a 120–160ml gaiwan or Yixing-style teapot with 95–100°C / 203–212°F water. Rinse briefly, then begin with a 10–15 second infusion. Extend later steeps gradually.

Everyday teapot: Use around 5–6g per 300ml of boiling water and steep for 3–4 minutes. Re-steep several times, increasing the time as needed.

When to drink

This mature ripe Pu-erh is especially suited to after-meal tea, evening sessions and longer weekend brewing. Its age and large-format character also make it an interesting tea for comparative tastings beside younger shou Pu-erh.

Food pairing

Pair with roasted nuts, dates, dark chocolate, sesame pastries, mooncake, dim sum, roast meats or savoury mushroom dishes. Richer foods complement the tea’s deep, mellow profile particularly well.

Storage & aging

Keep the cake in a clean, dry, ventilated and odor-free place away from direct sunlight and excess humidity. Because of its 1kg size, breathable tea paper and a dedicated tea box or large ceramic storage jar are especially useful.

Collector display & gifting

The oversized round cake, numbered commemorative presentation and vintage Tea-Horse Road imagery make this especially striking in a New Chinese, collector, study or tea-room interior. Display one wrapped cake on a sturdy timber or metal stand while keeping it away from strong light and kitchen odors. It also works as a substantial milestone gift for serious Pu-erh drinkers.
