A rare meeting of two classic Chinese tea traditions: the clean, nutty character of Longjing green tea and the luminous fragrance of fresh jasmine. This 2026 Jasmine Longjing is made with Longjing tea leaves selected from Hangzhou, Zhejiang and jasmine flowers selected from Jinhua, Zhejiang, then brought together through traditional jasmine scenting so the finished cup carries both tea character and floral lift.

Why Longjing Is So Famous

Longjing — commonly known in English as Dragon Well — is one of the defining styles of Chinese green tea. Its reputation is tied not only to flavor, but also to a highly recognizable method of manufacture and a deep association with Hangzhou tea culture. Unlike rolled or twisted green teas, classic Longjing is shaped during pan-firing into smooth, flattened leaves. This flat pan-fired form (扁平炒青) is part of its identity: the leaf is pressed and worked against the heated pan, creating the blade-like appearance and helping develop the tea’s characteristic roasted-bean, chestnut-like and gently sweet aromatic register.

This Jasmine Longjing adds another layer to that tradition. Fresh jasmine fragrance is absorbed by the finished green tea rather than replacing its underlying character. The result is not simply “jasmine tea”: beneath the flowers you can still taste the calm, softly toasted structure associated with Longjing.

Tasting Notes

  • Aroma: fresh jasmine, spring blossoms, sweet green leaf and a soft toasted-nut undertone.
  • First sip: bright floral fragrance arrives first, followed by a clean green-tea sweetness.
  • Mid-palate: smooth, mellow and lightly chestnut-like rather than aggressively grassy.
  • Finish: refreshing, floral and gently sweet, with the jasmine lingering above the tea rather than becoming perfumed or heavy.

The Beauty of the Leaf: Flat, Pan-Fired Longjing

Before brewing, look closely at the leaves. Longjing is celebrated for a flatter, straighter silhouette than curled teas such as Bi Luo Chun. In a clear glass, hot water reveals the craftsmanship: the pressed leaves soften, loosen and gradually regain their natural shape. Some hover near the surface while others descend through the pale green-gold liquor. With jasmine buds among the tea, the infusion becomes especially decorative — part drink, part quiet tea-table performance.

Traditional Glass Brewing — Made to Be Watched

For the most beautiful presentation, use a tall clear glass or a white porcelain gaiwan.

  • Tea: 4–5g per 250ml water
  • Water: about 80°C / 176°F
  • First infusion: 60–90 seconds
  • Later infusions: increase gradually to taste

Avoid boiling water: lower temperature protects the tender green-tea sweetness and keeps the jasmine fragrance clear. In a glass, leave the lid off and watch the flat leaves slowly open. For a lighter Chinese-style continuous brew, drink down to roughly one-third of the glass and top up with warm water again.

How It Differs from Other Chinese Green Teas

Versus Bi Luo Chun: Bi Luo Chun is tightly curled into fine spirals and is usually more airy, high-toned and naturally floral-fruity. Longjing is flatter, more structured and more obviously pan-fired, with bean, nut and chestnut-like notes. Here, jasmine adds floral perfume without removing that Longjing base.

Versus Huangshan Mao Feng: Mao Feng commonly presents a softer, more orchid-like and tender vegetal profile with elongated buds. Longjing tends to feel more roasted and nutty, with a cleaner pan-fired outline.

Versus classic jasmine pearls: jasmine pearls are rolled and often emphasize dense, sweet floral fragrance. Jasmine Longjing remains visually flat and distinctly green-tea-led, giving you a clearer contrast between fresh jasmine and toasted Longjing character.

Tea Culture & Serving

Longjing belongs naturally to the elegant glass-brewing tradition of Jiangnan tea culture: clear water, visible leaf, restrained fragrance and a slow pace. It is especially suited to a quiet morning, an afternoon reading session, a refined tea table, or as a thoughtful Chinese-tea gift for someone who wants an approachable bridge between floral tea and classic green tea.

FAQ

Does this taste like ordinary jasmine tea?

No. The jasmine is prominent, but the cup still carries Longjing’s smoother pan-fired green-tea character, giving it more nutty structure than many conventional jasmine teas.

Why are the leaves flat?

Flat shaping is a signature of Longjing manufacture. The leaves are worked and pressed during pan-firing, producing the recognizable blade-like appearance and contributing to the tea’s distinctive aroma and mouthfeel.

Can I cold brew it?

Yes. Use approximately 5–6g per 500ml cold water and refrigerate for 4–6 hours for a softer, sweeter, highly fragrant cup.
