Taste & aroma
Bingdao-style raw Pu-erh is prized for a sweetness-forward profile. This cake brews a clear golden liquor with a smooth body, clean floral-honey fragrance, brisk young-sheng structure and a lingering returning sweetness. The flavour develops over repeated infusions, moving from fragrant and lively in the early steeps toward a softer, fuller and more rounded finish.
How to brew
Gongfu method: Use a Pu-erh knife or tea pick to loosen about 5–7g from the side of the cake. Place it in a 100–150ml gaiwan or small teapot. Use water around 95–100°C / 203–212°F. Give the leaves a very quick rinse, then begin with 5–10 second infusions, increasing the time gradually as the compressed leaf opens.
Western-style method: Use about 3–4g for 300–400ml of hot water. Steep for around 1–2 minutes, then re-steep several times.
About the wrapper
The original wrapper prominently prints “500年古树”, “限量发行: 688饼” and an individual collection number. These markings form part of the product’s original presentation and give each cake a distinctive collector-style identity.
Storage & continued aging
Store in a clean, dry, ventilated and odor-free environment away from direct sunlight, excess humidity, perfume, incense smoke and kitchen odors. Raw Pu-erh is traditionally suitable for long-term maturation under stable storage conditions. Keep the original wrapper intact if you plan to preserve the cake as part of a tea collection.
Tea-room styling & display
The natural kraft-paper wrapper and large tree graphic give this cake a strong archival, understated look. Display it upright on a dark wood stand beside celadon, a gaiwan or a simple brass tea tool. It works particularly well in New Chinese, Zen, Japandi, wabi-sabi, scholarly-study and collector interiors.
Gift ideas
A numbered, limited-edition 357g Bingdao-style raw Pu-erh cake makes a substantial gift for experienced tea drinkers, collectors and people interested in Yunnan tea culture. Suitable occasions include birthdays, Lunar New Year, housewarmings, business gifting and tea-club exchanges. Pair it with a tea knife and tasting cups for a complete gongfu tea gift set.
Food pairing
Pair with fresh fruit, almond biscuits, lightly sweet pastries, roasted nuts, delicate dim sum or mild cheeses. Lighter foods allow the tea’s floral sweetness and clean finish to remain clear.
