Singapore Airlines Is the World’s Best Airline 2026 — And the Most Interesting Win Is Actually Economy Class
Singapore Airlines has taken Skytrax’s top global airline title for the sixth time. But the 2026 results also show something more useful for travellers: excellence is being judged across the whole aircraft, not only in first and business class.

Singapore Airlines has been named the World’s Best Airline at the 2026 Skytrax World Airline Awards. Qatar Airways places second, Cathay Pacific third, ANA fourth and Turkish Airlines fifth. It is Singapore Airlines’ sixth overall win in the top category.
The bigger story is economy class
Singapore Airlines also won World’s Best Economy Class and World’s Best Economy Class Onboard Catering. That matters because premium aviation coverage often focuses only on suites, lounges and champagne. Most passengers experience an airline through economy, where seat design, food, lighting, service and operational consistency matter enormously.
A carrier that performs at the top in both brand prestige and mass-market cabin delivery has a stronger claim to overall excellence than one whose quality is concentrated only at the front of the aircraft.

Asia dominates the top of the table
Four of the top five airlines are based in Asia or the Middle East, and the wider 2026 list remains heavily represented by carriers from the region. This reflects long-standing investment in cabin service, airport experience, fleet renewal and transfer-hub quality.
For luxury travellers, it also means the route can matter as much as the destination. A connection through Singapore, Doha, Hong Kong or Tokyo can meaningfully change the experience of a long-haul trip.
Cleanliness, cabin crew and entertainment still matter
Singapore Airlines ranked second for cabin crew, second among the world’s cleanest airlines and second for inflight entertainment in the 2026 results. Those categories are less glamorous than a new suite, but they describe the parts of flying that passengers encounter repeatedly.
How the Skytrax survey works
Skytrax says the 2025/2026 customer survey ran from September 2025 through August 2026, included respondents from more than 100 nationalities and featured more than 300 airlines. The awards are based on passenger survey results rather than a panel of editors.
As with any ranking, the result should be treated as one reference rather than absolute truth. Route, aircraft type, cabin, crew and airport conditions can vary considerably.
